One tough building

As I ate lunch today in the Potbelly Sandwich Works in the bottom of the old Bank One Tower in Fort Worth, I marveled that I was sitting in the lobby of a building that 8 years ago was jacked up by an F3 tornado. You know the building, the one with the green glass (pictured to the right here). Today it is home to about 300 high-end apartments, some retail space and a parking structure.

I find it amazing that the building withstood the wrath of the F3 and 'lived' to tell about it, cheating certain death more than once when the owner had all but decided to implode it rather than try to repair it.

Thankfully, a number of tax breaks and a new set of owners were able to save the building. The renovation was about $65M according to NBC5i.com, but it seems to me the loss of this iconic building would have been immeasurable.

I, for one, am glad to see 'The Tower' still standing tall.
