If you will recall last week we had a 'bomb' scare up the street when the Fort Worth Bomb Squad was called in to look over a 'Samsonite' left on the curb near a bus stop.
Today I could hear the helicopters circling around, but didn't think to look outside to see what was up. I checked my mail and received this message from NBC5i.com:
BREAKING NEWS: Explosion reported in downtown Fort Worth
Hey, that's why the 'copters are overhead. Slaps forehead. Duh.
Sure enough the NBC5 copter was circling around just over Houston and Eighth street when I checked it out.
The initial reports were it was an explosion. Then, the site was updated to say it was a 'small explosion' on the 6th floor of the Waggoneer Building, home to XTO Energy.
The web site, tonight, shows a bit of a different outcome:
Malfunction Forces Evacuation In Downtown Fort Worth
Don't you love the sensationalism of today's news? Oh well, it made for some exciting moments when we though Al Qaeda had gone all West-side on us. Of course, picking Fort Worth probably isn't a good starting point. The rednecks over here don't play nice with people coming to their house to start some
Come to think of it, with it being XTO Energy, it could have been a group of highly-organized, environmentally-friendly hippies who were systematically trying to bring down the energy companies over the high gas prices today.
I crack myself up. I should know those types are too busy smoking weed, hugging trees and acting all smug in their Toyota Prius' to get involved.
