Vacation day Sunday

I woke up about 8:30 am and watched a bunch of Tivo'ed TV shows, namely Guy's Big Bite, from the Food Network. Guy was making some asian-inspired things and that got me to craving some lettuce wraps like those at PF Changs or Pei Wei.

Since I was in Graham, there was no chance of that, so I opted to make my own. This would call for a trip to either United or Wal-Mart to pick up the stuff later.

I had picked up some Jalapeno-salsa cream creese from Einstein Brothers a month ago and it was unopened in the fridge, so when Kathy woke up, she toasted up some bagels and loaded one up for me with the spicy cream cheese. It was delicious.

Late in the day, after a day of sitting around watching the tube, we opted to go to Wal-Mart to pick up the stuff to cook. We didn't figure United would have some of the asian spices we were looking for and we could kill two birds with one stone by going to Wal-Mart, since I needed to pick up an extension cord to power wash the porch later today (or tomorrow).

We cruised in to Wal-Mart and picked up everything we needed. Well, they didn't have an hoisen sauce, but we didn't figure they would, not a large population of Asian people in Graham. We did get some lettuce, kickin' chicken hot sauce, stir fry and soy sauce along with a good selection of ginger, green onions and garlic.

Of course, the checkout lines were long and we picked the slowest one in the place.

The girl at the checkout was continually chatting with the two ladies ahead of us, causing the length of time to grow and my patience to shrink.

When we finally started checking out, I was 'catching' the bags as the came off the little lazy susan and was making sure the plastic bag was open and ready to receive the next items. I always try to do this to speed up the checkout process since they don't have any self-checkouts here, but desperately need them.

She quizzed us on what we were making with the strange (to her) group of items. When we replied, 'lettuce wraps', she stared at us like a monkey perplexed with a long division problem. I guess she hasn't seen them before. I offered my 15-second explaination, grabbed the last bags off the carousel and waited on Kathy to complete the debit-card transaction so we could 'make like a tree and leave'.

We got home, unpacked the car and I proceeded to cook up some asian-inspired chicken for the lettuce wraps. I must say, it was quite tasty. We watched some more TV, this time a movie I had recorded, 'Evan Almighty', and then went to bed.
